Kyrgyzstan and United States make statement on bilateral consultations

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Aybek Moldogaziyev led a delegation to Washington to participate in the fifth meeting of annual Kyrgyzstan-US consultations. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu headed the US delegation, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan reported.

The United States thanked Kyrgyzstan for its leadership in regional integration efforts and its forthcoming role as an annual co-chair of the C5+1 Secretariat starting from July 2023. The representatives of the two countries discussed effective efforts to repatriate and reintegrate 59 Kyrgyz citizens from Syria and border security issues and assistance.

The parties discussed ways in which Washington and Bishkek could promote English learning programmes in Kyrgyzstan, including by supporting investment in English language learning and activities of Peace Corps volunteers.

The participants of bilateral consultations emphasised the importance of a free and diverse media landscape, a strong and dynamic civil society and the protection of human rights.
