On April 5, Minister Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov met with a delegation of Chinese scientists from the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of Uzbekistan, the press office of the Ministry reported.
The parties discussed the implementation of an innovation cooperation project for 2023-2025 between the International Innovation Centre of the Aral Sea Region under the President of Uzbekistan and the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography.
This project envisages cooperation in growing salt-tolerant plants and halophytes under solar energy panels, generating electricity from solar panels and preventing sandstorms in the Aral Sea region by planting drought-resistant plants.
The Minister emphasised that the Uzbek side is ready to support the initiative of the Xinjiang Institute, as well as to intensify scientific and technical cooperation between research and educational institutions of the two states.
The parties agreed to establish Uzbekistan-China higher educational institutions and research associations in Syrdarya Region that would jointly conduct research in ecology, agriculture, water issues and irrigation.
