Steady downward trend in food prices reported in Kazakhstan

On April 3, Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Minister of Trade and Integration Serik Zhumangarin held a meeting to discuss the downward trends in prices for the essential food commodities, the press office of the Government of Kazakhstan reported.

According to the monitoring results, a steady downward trend in prices for the essential food commodities, including buckwheat, sugar, potatoes, onions, carrots and sunflower oil has been reported in Kazakhstan for the third week in a row.

Prices for the essential food commodities fell in Almaty and Almaty, East Kazakhstan, Mangistau and West Kazakhstan Regions and steadied in North Kazakhstan Region.

The government intervention into commodity markets and the release of food stabilization funds made it possible to reduce prices for these commodities.

The Government has taken effective measures to detect the intermediary schemes, which were used by the enterprises to sell commodities at exorbitant prices.

Minister Zhumangarin noted that the commodity interventions are bearing fruit and highlighted the need to continue this work until new fruit and vegetable crops grew.
