President of Uzbekistan holds meeting on tourism promotion

On March 29, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting via videoconference on the development of Uzbekistan’s tourism sector and the improvement of Uzbekistan’s attractiveness for tourists, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

Noting that the number of foreign tourists visiting the country is increasing, domestic tourism is developing and tourism revenues are growing, Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasised that the potential of Uzbekistan’s tourism sector is not implemented to the full. In this regard, the Uzbek leader specified the problems impeding efforts to bring Uzbekistan’s tourism sector up to a higher level.

The Uzbek leader highlighted the need to increase the number of domestic flights and trains and purchase new passenger train cars. There is a shortage of tour buses. Karakalpakstan, Jizzakh, Namangan, Urgench, Bukhara and Surkhandarya Regions are facing the most important transport challenges.

In this regard, the President instructed that 20 modern aircrafts and 8 electric trains be purchased by the end of the year and the number of flights be doubled.

The need to increase the number of hotels in the regions and bring the quality of services at existing hotels in line with international standards was emphasised.

The President noted that the sky resorts in Tashkent and Jizzakh Regions offer favourable recreation opportunities during the winter months.
