Tokayev: Energy infrastructure of Kazakhstan is operating at the limit of its capacity

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev delivered a speech at the opening session of the Parliament of the new convocation. He emphasised the need to change the approach to energy infrastructure management, Sputnik reports.

Tokayev said Kazakhstan has the outdated energy infrastructure operating to the limit of its capacity. These are the main causes of utility accidents that often occur in nearly all the regions of the country. Many cities are facing a shortage of infrastructure facilities: roads, power lines, gas pipelines.

He said he had instructed that a new development model of the electricity market be designed: investments need to be attracted in the industry.

The President of Kazakhstan said the three laws related to the power industry have been submitted for consideration to the Parliament. He called up parliamentarians of the new convocation to promptly consider the draft laws and adopt amendments.
