First Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Umarov visits Vienna

First Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Kairat Umarov attended the opening ceremony of the 66th session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs and met with Secretary-General for Foreign Affairs of Austria Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal during his visit to the capital of Austria, the press office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported. 

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 66th session of the Commission, the First Deputy Prime Minister emphasised the importance of international security cooperation, particularly against the backdrop of global instability. In this regard, Kairat Umarov reported on the activities of the Central Asian Regional Information Coordination Centre for Combating Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs that opened in Almaty in 2010.

The talks between Kairat Umarov and Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal focused on building up cooperation in a wide range of areas, including international and regional politics. The Secretary-General for Foreign Affairs was informed about ongoing social and economic reforms and the upcoming early parliamentary elections in Kazakhstan. Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal highly evaluated ongoing reforms in Kazakhstan, in particular the activities of the Republic of Kazakhstan within the international organisations, including the OSCE.

The Kazakh delegation continues to take part in the 66th session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs, which will complete its work on March 17.
