President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov arrived in Baku to participate in the Summit-level Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement Contact Group in response to COVID-19. There he met with his colleague from Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. The head of the republic noted the wide opportunities for expanding relations between the countries. Aliyev stressed that in the future Ashgabat and Baku can expand cooperation in such areas as energy, cotton growing, transport, and investments. Emphasis was also placed on the potential for expanding the transportation of goods from Turkmenistan through Azerbaijan.
He added that political ties between the countries have a solid foundation. The president of the republic said that the Azerbaijani authorities pay special attention to strengthening cooperation with the Central Asian state. According to him, Ashgabat and Baku have demonstrated efficiency within the framework of cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian fields.
During the talks, the parties also discussed partnership in a number of other areas of mutual interest.
