On February 27, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva had a meeting with new US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Uzbekistan Jonathan Henick, the press office of the Oliy Majlis reported.
The interlocutors exchanged views on key aspects of inter-parliamentary cooperation.
The Chairperson of the Senate congratulated the diplomat on his appointment and emphasised that cooperation between the Parliaments of the two states is one of the crucial mechanisms for strengthening multi-vector partnerships between Uzbekistan and the United States. In this regard, she positively evaluated the activities of the US Congressional Uzbekistan Caucus.
The American diplomat highly evaluated the transformations that had taken place in the economic, public and political spheres since his last visit to Uzbekistan 26 years ago. He noted Uzbekistan’s experience in eliminating child and forced labour, emphasising that this experience could serve as an example for other countries to follow.
The talks focused on key aspects of cooperation in the trade, economic, cultural, humanitarian and social spheres, including gender equality, support for women entrepreneurs and their social and political empowerment.
