World Bank to help Tajikistan improve quality of life in Khatlon Region

Acting Head of Khatlon Region Administration of Tajikistan Davlatali Said held talks with World Bank Country Manager for Tajikistan Ozan Sevimli. It was noted that the World Bank will provide financing to implement projects aimed at improving the quality of life in the region, the press office of the Khatlon Region Administration reported to CentralAsia.news.

The international financial organisation will provide grants to implement the state projects aimed at developing the important areas. Currently, 14 state investment projects totally worth $260 million are being implemented in Khatlon Region with the assistance of the World Bank.

The major problems facing the region include the supply of clean drinking water to local people. To solve this problem, the project worth $59 million is being implemented in a number of villages.

Said and Sevimli positively evaluated partnerships between Khatlon Region and the World Bank in the agricultural, educational, healthcare and transport sectors. They noted that the World Bank has allocated more than $2.3 billion to the projects in Tajikistan over 30 years.
