On February 14, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General and Head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia Natalia Gherman, who is completing her mission on this post, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.
The interlocutors reviewed the progress of cooperation of Uzbekistan with the UN Regional Centre and other UN agencies in building fruitful cooperation in the Central Asian format and a constructive dialogue on priority issues.
In recent years, the UN General Assembly adopted four resolutions at the initiative of Uzbekistan supported by the international community. Uzbekistan hosted a series of international meetings with the support of the UN Regional Centre, including in the framework of the Dialogue of Women Leaders from the Central Asian states and the UNRCCA Preventive Diplomacy Academy.
Natalia Gherman was appointed as Executive Director of the Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate. During the meeting with President Mirziyoyev, she expressed readiness to continue to promote Uzbekistan’s initiatives to achieve regional security and build up cooperation in this sphere.
