Japarov sees dangers from global digital divide

On February 13, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Akylbek Japarov delivered a speech at the SDGs in Action Plenary Session of the World Government Summit (WGS) in Dubai. He noted that parity and a maximum reduction in inequalities among countries, at least at the regional level, are essential to the success of the transition towards a sustainable future with the least losses, the press office of the Government of Kyrgyzstan reports.

Japarov noted that he sees dangers from the global digital divide, adding that this disparity is going to be worse than industrial backwardness.

In this context, the Prime Minister stated that it would be hard for Central Asia to become an actor on a global arena in a new ‘normality’ without regional interaction on an entirely different level.

“Besides, our region as a whole is definitely more economically competitive in the face of global tectonic changes,” he said.

The Chairman of the Government emphasised that today the Central Asian leaders have the political will to build up integration and cooperation in the region, and this is crucial to the success of any undertakings in this area.
