Authorities of Uzbekistan tighten control over electricity supplies

On February 6, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting in Tashkent, at which it was decided to tighten control over electricity supplies in the country. Severe frost in January exposed serious problems, and the Republic is set to switch the energy control system to an emergency mode for the next two years, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported to CentralAsia.News.

The President was informed about the factors negatively affecting electricity supplies and payments for energy resources. The local authorities reported that the automated electricity and natural gas metering systems had been implemented by over 90%.

The local authorities registered 12,000 illegal electricity connection in December, which caused damages of 600 billion soums to the state budget.

The problem is also that the district authorities issue electricity connection permits without making calculations and inspections, which leads to numerous power grid accidents.
