Kazakhstan raises minimum wage in 2023

On January 1, the Cabinet of Ministers of Kazakhstan reported on society-oriented changes that will take place in the life of citizens of the country in 2023 in the orbit of the tasks set by President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev. The website of the Prime Minister of the Republic provides a detailed classification of changes.

The Cabinet of Ministers informs that pensions, benefits and salaries will be increased to improve the people’s welfare. The national projects «Comfortable School» and «Modernization of Rural Health Care» and the development of other relevant areas will continue.

At the beginning of the year, the minimum wage (MW) was raised from 60,000 to 70,000 tenge. The President informed about it in his Address to the People last year. Therefore,  1.8 million employees of enterprises of various forms of ownership will enhance their incomes, as employers must pay salaries not lower than the minimum wage in accordance with the Labour Code.

The Government of Kazakhstan will continue to implement the programme aimed at raising the incomes of citizens of Kazakhstan up to 2025. This document will regulate the growth of earnings of doctors, teachers, employees in the manufacturing sector and other government employees.

In 2023, a project aimed at enhancing the incomes of rural populations by simplifying access to microcredits will be launched in the regions of the country. The state will allocate 1 trillion tenge that will be spent for the next 5 years. This will help more than 1 million rural workers to increase their incomes.
