During the meeting, the priorities of partnership in the Commonwealth in 2023 were outlined.
President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in the informal Summit of the leaders of the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The event was held in St. Petersburg at the Yeltsin Presidential Library, where the head of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin met the Turkmen leader, as reported by «Turkmenistan Today».
The presidents exchanged greetings and took a picture together.
During the summit, it was noted that cooperation between the countries of the Commonwealth is developing successfully. Attention was paid to effective work in the field of import substitution, industrial production and trade, the development of science and technology, and establishment of security. Emphasis was also placed on the joint work plan in 2023.
Turkmenistan is an active member of the CIS. Within the framework of the organization, the Central Asian country makes a significant contribution to ensuring stability at the regional and international levels. Ashgabat is developing a constructive dialogue with external partners that are part of the Commonwealth, and also puts forward effective initiatives.
At the suggestion of Turkmenistan, in 2019 the CIS adopted a declaration on the strategic cooperation of the member countries of the Commonwealth in the field of economy. The Strategy for the Economic Development of the international organization until 2030 is based on the relevant document. In this program, the focus is made on the development of transport, fuel and energy complex, industry, trade and innovation.
Turkmenistan stands for the creation of a transport and transit infrastructure in the CIS, an increase in the oil and gas export. Ashgabat also considers it necessary to deepen relations between the Commonwealth countries at the parliamentary level.
