United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres sent a telegram to Tajik leader Emomali Rahmon, congratulating the President on the declaration of 2025 as the International Year of Glacier Preservation, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reported to CentralAsia.news.
Guterres emphasised that Tajikistan today is taking the lead in promoting conservation of glaciers at the global level, as well as taking an active part in addressing the challenges to improving access to clean water and combating climate change.
The UN Secretary-General expressed the hope that the UN Member States will meet their commitments to promoting measures to address the above challenges.
As was reported, the Resolution on the declaration of the 2025 as the International Year of Glacier Preservation was unanimously adopted at the 77th session of the UN General Assembly on December 14. The initiative put forward by Rahmon was supported by 153 countries of the world.
