President of Kazakhstan makes state visit to Uzbekistan

On December 21, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev arrived in Uzbekistan for a state visit, the press office of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan reported.

On the first day of the visit, the Kazakh leader planted a tree in the Alley of Guests of Honour in the Kuksaroy residence and visited the Yangi Uzbekiston Park, where he laid flowers at the Independence Monument.

On December 22, together with President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev visited the mausoleums of Sheikh Khovandi Takhur and Tulebiy in the capital of Uzbekistan. The Kazakh leader was briefed about the history of the mausoleums and took part in the joint prayers.

On the same day, a solemn greeting ceremony of the leader of the neighbouring state took place at the International Congress Hall in the capital of Uzbekistan. After the ceremony, the leaders of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan held one-on-one talks.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev and the people of Kazakhstan on Independence Day that the country solemnly celebrated on December 16.

The two leaders expressed belief that the current top-level talks would give a new impetus to multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan and noted the traditionally friendly nature of relations between the two peoples.

Mirziyoyev and Tokayev exchanged views on building up relations in the political, trade, economic, energy, transport, logistics, agricultural and water sectors, among others.

They noted the progress in partnerships in nearly all areas, the growth of bilateral trade and the successful implementation of joint projects. The two leaders discussed the issues of regional and international politics and joint efforts to ensure sustainable development of the Central Asian region.
