China to allocate $100,000 to conflict-affected Batken residents

On November 2, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Azizbek Madmarov met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Kyrgyzstan Du Dewen. The Chinese side informed about a decision to allocate $100,000 to residents of Batken Region, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan reported.

Humanitarian aid will be provided to residents of Batken Region, who were affected by an armed clash on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border in September this year.

The interlocutors discussed the progress of the implementation of the agreements reached during the visit of Minister of Foreign Affairs of China Wang Yi to Kyrgyzstan in July 2022.

As was reported, the shooting on several sections on the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan began in the morning on September 16. The settlements in Leilek and Batken Regions came under fire. The Ministry of Health reported 140 people injured and another 46 killed. The armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border forced residents of 7 villages in Batken and Leilek Regions and Dzhekendi village in Chon-Alai district of Osh Region to flee their homes.
