On October 21, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov during his official visit to Turkmenistan to discuss further bilateral cooperation in key areas, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reports.
The leaders of the two states exchanged views on the current state and prospects of partnerships in the political, trade, economic, transport and energy sectors, agriculture and water management in a narrow format. The interlocutor noted the progress in strengthening interaction at all levels and expressed belief that the current visit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Turkmenistan would be another step to strengthen friendship and cooperation.
The government delegations of the two states held expanded talks. They identified the main areas of further Uzbek-Turkmen cooperation and presented the programme of future joint events.
Following the talks, the leaders of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan put their signatures under the Declaration on the intensification of strategic partnerships, the Action Plan for 2022-2024 on the promotion of political, economic and cultural cooperation and the Plan on the expansion of cooperation in agriculture. The following documents were signed:
- Agreement on the promotion of bilateral economic relations;
- Agreement on the regulation of the activities of trading houses in the Republic of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan;
- Agreement on cooperation in science and technology;
- Agreement on the registration of medicines and medical devices.
Following the high-level meeting, the leaders of the two states gave a press conference on the outcomes of the talks.
