Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan meets with UN Secretary-General

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov met with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres during his visit to New York. The interlocutors discussed key aspects of further Uzbekistan-UN cooperation in the major areas, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan reported.

It was noted that Uzbekistan has intensified its activities within the UN and its agencies. Recently, the UN General Assembly has adopted five resolutions on the initiative of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and Samarkand hosted the Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization last week, which the UN officials attended as guests of honour.

Antonio Guterres highly evaluated large-scale reforms taking place in Uzbekistan and said the United Nations stood ready to provide comprehensive support to the country on the path of transformation.

The Secretary-General expressed support for the efforts of Uzbekistan in responding to the environmental impacts of the Aral Sea ecological disaster and strengthening cooperation with neighbouring countries, including the construction of the Termez-Mazar-i-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar railway.
