Samarkand to host SCO Summit

Samarkand is preparing to host the 22nd Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which will be held on September 15-16, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reports.

The previous meeting of the SCO leaders took place three years ago, before the coronavirus pandemic.

The leaders of the SCO Member States – the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, China, Pakistan and India and the leaders of the SCO Observer States – Belarus, Iran and Mongolia will attend the meeting of the Council, chaired by the Uzbek leader Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The leaders of Turkmenistan, Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan, the leaders of the UN and other major international organisations will attend the meeting as guests of honour.

The meeting will focus on key aspects of multilateral and multi-vector cooperation within the SCO, as well as issues of regional and international politics.

The high-level meetings are expected to result in signing agreements aimed at enhancing cooperation in key areas and expanding the scope of activities of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

More than 80 major international events have been held within Uzbekistan’s Presidency of the SCO that ends this year.
