ArcelorMittal to invest $1 billion in Kazakhstan

On September 6, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev received Executive Chairman of ArcelorMittal Lakshmi Mittal. The interlocutors discussed the company’s activities in Kazakhstan and outlined the prospects, the press office of Akorda reported.

ArcelorMitall Temirtau operates in the steel and mining industries.

The key topics under discussion included occupational safety, pay equity of local workers, compliance with social norms and technological upgrading of production facilities. The President emphasised the rigorous implementation of all the above aspects.

The Executive Chairman of ArcelorMittal informed the Kazakh leader about the intention of his company to invest $1 billion in Kazakhstan. These funds will mostly be earmarked for modernisation of production facilities.

The President and the businessman discussed the approaches to meeting domestic market demand through delivering ArcelorMittal products and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
