President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received President of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly Abdulla Shahid. They discussed a wide range of issues related to the economic crisis, regional security and climate change, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reported.
They highlighted the importance of continuing to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan. Rahmon emphasised a critical need to further promote practical partnerships of the international community in this area, noting that Tajikistan is ready to provide its material and technical capabilities to help the people of the South Asian state.
Later that day, Rahmon had a telephone conversation with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The Tajik leader said the states that are going to send humanitarian aid cargoes to Afghanistan can use the resources of Tajikistan’s logistics infrastructure.
As was reported, the UNHCR raised concerns over the continued detention and deportations of Afghan refugees in Tajikistan.
