Tajikistan takes measures to ensure food security

On July 13, Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Tajikistan Sadi Karimzoda spoke at the press conference, noting that local government officials are taking measures to ensure food security to meet the demand of the growing population of the country, the Khovar State News Agency reported.

Noting that at present Tajikistan is unable to use more lands for crops, the Minister of Agriculture explained that specialists are focusing on increasing crop yields instead.

The measures taken include the import of elite potato seeds and wheat products. In addition, the Republic will receive $58 million in grants from the World Bank.

These funds will be spent on integrating climate resilience into agricultural production for food security and developing a network of resistant varieties of seeds, seedlings and planting materials.
