On July 12, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon made a working trip to Rogun, where he visited the construction site of the Rogun hydropower plant. He had a meeting with Pietro Salini, the top manager of the Italian company engaged to implement the construction project, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reported.
The interlocutors discussed the fulfilment of bilateral obligations under the hydropower plant project. Rahmon shared his views on the pace of construction. Though the details of the talks were not reported, the President highlighted the need to ensure the timely completion of the hydropower plant construction.
The importance of ensuring high quality construction works was emphasised.
As was reported, the European Union is planning to become the top investor in the Rogun hydropower plant. The European Commission has requested that the European Investment Bank invest in the project.
The project envisages building the world’s tallest clay core rockfill dam at 335 metres high on the Vakhsh River.
