Oil exports from Kazakhstan via CPC branches suspended again

On July 6, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov held an urgent meeting with the heads of the energy departments. The agenda focused on assessing the situation caused by the suspension of the activities of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC), the press office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported.

The participants discussed a wide range of potential and feasible approaches to mitigating negative impacts and preventing state revenue losses due to limitations on the exports of crude oil from Kazakhstan. Following the meeting, the Prime Minister gave a number of specific instructions.

As was reported, the activities of the CPC were suspended by an act of the Novorossiysk city court (Russia) for 30 days. Scheduled inspections have revealed violations in the technical concept for oil spill response.

On May 6, the supervisory agencies of the Russian Federation conducted an audit of CPC-R JSC in compliance with RF laws. On July 5, the court upheld the claim from Rostransnadzor.

As was reported, on May 27, Director General of CPC Nikolai Gorban assured Alikhan Smailov that the problems in the oil pipeline system had been solved, and oil continued to flow along export routes.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister called on the interlocutor to ensure trouble free operation of the CPC in the future. However, the Director General of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium said nothing about the audit, which was conducted 21 days ago.
