Tokayev: “Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran is the shortest route linking the regions”

On June 29, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev put forward a number of proposals at the VI Caspian Summit in Ashgabat. One of the areas of constructive partnerships among the Caspian Sea states is building the architecture of a closely interwoven transport system, the press office of Akorda reported.

The President of Kazakhstan noted that the role of the Trans-Caspian International Road Map is growing many times in modern conditions when the logistics chains are being broken. The use of it contributes to promoting a transit exchange among Europe, Central Asia and China, he noted.

Tokayev noted that the volume of maritime trade in Kazakh goods and commodity turnover with neighbouring countries has increased significantly. The President said Kazakhstan is taking active measures to modernise its port infrastructure and expand its fleet. In this context, the Kazakh leaders called on the participants to jointly and expeditiously work over organisational matters.

The Kazakh leader highlighted the importance of timely approval of mutually acceptable and unified prices, as well as elimination of bottlenecks.

Tokayev focused on the meaningful development of the North-South corridor.

“To intensify this cooperation, it would be advisable to use fully the capacities of the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway, which is the shortest route linking East Asia and the Persian Gulf states,” the President said.
