Kazakhstan ready to contribute to efforts to end global hunger

On June 24, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev addressed the participants of the BRICS+ High-Level Dialogue on Global Development. The event was held online. China chaired the 14th summit. President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping invited the leader of the Republic of Kazakhstan to take part in the forum, the press office of Akorda reported.

Evaluating the current global situation, the Kazakh leader noted that the contemporary community is experiencing an unprecedented geopolitical and economic ‘quake’. He focused on deteriorating food security among its consequences.

The President of Kazakhstan noted that given the dynamic break in the global food supply chains, the lives of millions of people risk being in imminent danger. The President emphasised that only well-coordinated international response approaches under short- and long-term programmes will help ensure the substantial replenishment of food safeguards.

Tokayev said Kazakhstan is determined to make a significant contribution to concerted efforts, using its huge agricultural resources. The achievement and promotion of food security necessitate building a well-functioning food trade system based on fairness and non-discrimination, Kasam-Zhomart Tokayev emphasised.
