On June 16, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Akylbek Japarov met with his Kazakh counterpart Alikhan Smailov on the sidelines of the Regional Summit on the Sustainable Development Goals in Almaty, the press office of the Government of Kyrgyzstan reports.

They discussed the progress of the implementation of the agreements reached following the 10th meeting of the Kyrgyzstan-Kazakhstan Intergovernmental Council and the official visit of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev to Kyrgyzstan.

“The leaders of the two states set the task of bringing trade turnover between the two countries to $2 billion. This task is reflected in the protocol of the 10th meeting of the Intergovernmental Council. We have every reason to increase bilateral trade,” Japarov said.

He underlined the need to revise the trade policy and address the remaining issues related to trade and transit of goods.

The emphasis was placed on the importance of facilitating the free movement of goods and services between countries.
