City metro system expands into new districts of Tashkent

On June 13, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the progress of construction works on the second line of the Tashkent elevated metro system, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reports.

The President reviewed the project for the connection of the elevated ring metro system to the Sergeli line and the plans for the modernisation of the rolling stock and the increase in passenger traffic.

5 metro stations will be built by the end of 2022 and 2 metro stations will be built by the Novruz Holiday next year. With the aim to upgrade technical capabilities of the metro system, it is planned to purchase 14 new trains and increase passenger safety. 26 mahallas will be covered by the public transport network and connected to the metro lines. It is also planned to purchase electric buses to meet the needs of the Tashkent transport system.

The possibilities of launching high-speed trains on the routes Tashkent-Khojikent, Tashkent-Bekabad and Tashkent-Angren and purchasing modern trains that will run along these routes are being considered.

Foreign experts will be invited to train professional personnel. The President set the task to beautify the mahalla territories along the metro lines.
