Sardor Umurzakov receives UK government official

On June 7, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov met with Under Secretary of State Mike Freer, the press office of the Ministry reported.

Mike Freer led the delegation of representatives from the London Stock Exchange and the financial corporations Standard Chartered and TheCityUk to Tashkent.

The talks focused on building up cooperation in the trade, economic, industrial and investment spheres.

Sardor Umurzakov and the UK officials noted positive dynamics of Uzbekistan-UK trade relations. In 2021, the trade turnover increased by 65%, and the export of Uzbek goods to the UK increased by 2.5 times. In the first three months of the year, the trade turnover increased by 68%. Over the past few years, the enterprises with the share of UK capital have increased by 40% in Uzbekistan.

The parties agreed to start attracting UK investors to implement projects in the agricultural processing, animal husbandry, pharmaceutical, textile and green energy sectors, as well as to train Uzbek industrialists and exporters to use the Generalised Scheme Preference (GSP).

The agenda of the meeting included the preparations for the 26th Uzbekistan-UK Council on Trade and Industry, which will be held in Tashkent this autumn.
