Rahmon attends 2nd Dushanbe Water Conference

On June 7, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon addressed the opening ceremony of the Second International Conference, dedicated to the International Decade for Action: Water for Sustainable Development (2018-2028) in Dushanbe. He focused on the progress made by Tajikistan in addressing water issues, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reports.

Rahmon emphasised that the world community highly evaluates the initiatives put forward by Tajikistan to solve water problems. He noted that the Republic adopted the state programme on glacier research and preservation for the period until 2030.

The Glacier Research and Preservation Centre opened in Tajikistan. Dushanbe called on the world community to set up the Glacier Preservation Fund and declare 2025 the International Year of Glacier Preservation.

The Second International Conference will last until June 9. In total, about 2,000 high-ranking officials from different states are attending the forum. Following the Conference, the participants will develop the final declaration, as well as measures and proposals in the sphere under discussion.

Rahmon said the Dushanbe Water Conference has a key role to play in the preparations for the UN Water Conference, which will be co-hosted by Tajikistan and the Netherlands in New York on March 22-24, 2023.
