On June 4, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov sent a message to the environmental workers. He congratulated the relevant citizens on World Environment Day. Berdimuhamedov reminded them that the country has succeeded in the relevant field, as reported by the news agency «Turkmenistan today».
Attention was paid to the annual tree-planting campaigns, the national strategy for climate change, and the forest program aimed at surrounding the capital and regions with forest zones. Emphasis was also placed on the development of the tourist zone «Avaza» and the creation of an artificial lake «Altyn Asyr» in the center of the Karakum desert.
Berdimuhamedov noted that the Central Asian country has done a lot of work to improve the regulatory legal acts within nature protection. He recalled that Turkmenistan has joined dozens of UN conventions on the environment. International initiatives of the state aimed at maintaining the ecological balance have demonstrated effectiveness.
It must be added that World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5.
