Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan reach agreement on gas supplies

On May 20, a face-to-face meeting between President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Deputy Head of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kazakhstan Roman Sklyar took place in Ashgabat. They discussed key areas for further cooperation. It was reported by the state news agency «Turkmenistan today».

The parties reached an agreement on the supply of Turkmen gas to Kazakhstan. Emphasis was placed on the importance of strengthening relations in economy, trade, fuel and energy complex, industry and agriculture.

Sklyar also said that Kazakhstan is interested in building a grain terminal on the territory of a neighboring country.

In October last year, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev paid an official visit to Ashgabat. He offered the then President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to supply Turkmen gas to Kazakhstan.

In the first half of January this year, at an extraordinary online meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Organization of Turkic States, the Head of the MFA of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov said that the country was ready to start supplying natural gas and electricity to Kazakhstan.
