Tashkent hosts Shanghai Cooperation Organization People’s Diplomacy Forum

On May 11, the People’s Diplomacy Forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization entitled “People's Diplomacy - Mutual Understanding for Development” has started its work in the capital of Uzbekistan.  Representatives of the parliaments of the SCO Member States, other international and non-governmental organisations are taking part in the forum, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan reports.

Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov delivered a welcome speech at the forum. He stressed that people’s diplomacy, as the most unbiased and transparent, has a key role to play in modern society. He also noted the success of Uzbekistan in the foreign policy arena in strengthening trust-based partnerships among the Central Asia countries and other SCO Member States.

The participants highly evaluated Uzbekistan’s role in the activities of the SCO and the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to establish the SCO People’s Diplomacy Centre in 2017. The participants supported a number of initiatives put forward by Uzbekistan that chairs the SCO in 2022, including youth empowerment projects in the SCO Member States and the practice of granting the status of cultural and tourist capital of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, among others.
