On May 1, an EU delegation arrived in the Republic of Karakalpakstan in the Aral Sea Region, the press office of the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan reports.
On the first day of their visit to the Aral Sea Region, members of the EU delegation took part in the tree planting event, during which 27,000 young trees were planted on the former sea bed. A commemorative plaque on the EU’s contribution to the environmental revival of the region was installed in Muynak district.
Members of the EU delegation were informed about the progress of the implementation of a number of social projects aimed at improving access of local populations to safe drinking water, protecting their health and promoting entrepreneurship.
The Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade presented a number of programmes and projects on social and economic development of the Aral Sea region worth over $210 million.
During the visit to the Aral Sea Region, members of the EU delegation had meetings with Chairman of the Jokargy Kenes Murat Kamalov, representatives of the State University of Karakalpakstan and the Council of Ministers. They visited the Takhtakupir district forestry, where they were informed about the progress of the implementation of Trust Fund-funded projects, and local historical and natural sites.
