Uzbekistan to introduce mobile identity management system

In accordance with the Decree of the President of Uzbekistan On additional measures to improve delivery of public services, reduce bureaucratic barriers and develop the national public service delivery system, the Mobile-ID natural person identifier, which is part of the Unified Information System for User Identification of the e-Government system, will be introduced from August 1 this year, the press service of the Ministry for the Development of Information Technologies and Communications of Uzbekistan reports.

The identification of natural persons through Mobile-ID is done at public service centres and notary offices. Citizens who apply to these institutions are required to present the original identity document. After the electronic system takes a digital face image and scans fingerprints, the mobile phone number is linked to the personal account on the Unified Portal of Interactive Public Services free of charge.

Until December 31, 2022, the mobile number identification will be done free of charge, and from 2023, a one-time fee of 2 percent of the base value will be charged.

Users of this identification system will have access to all types of public services, except for financial ones.
