Mahallabay system effectiveness assessed

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting via videoconference to evaluate the measures taken to improve living standards of mahallas, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

At the end of last year, the President signed the decree on the establishment of the post of deputy khokim responsible for entrepreneurship promotion, unemployment prevention and poverty reduction. The deputy khokims are responsible for examining the state of households in mahallas to assess their standard of living and wellbeing and identify households that need financial or social assistance.

In January-March 2022, 1.3 trillion soums in loans and about 20 billion soums in subsidies were allocated at the initiative of deputy khokims to promote entrepreneurship in mahallas, which allowed 47,000 people to start their business and launch 8,000 small business projects.

However, no progress has been made in some districts, where the unemployment and poverty rates remain high. The khokims of these districts received a warning, and their deputies were relieved of their posts for the failure to perform their duties.

800 billion soums will be allocated to solve the problems in mahallas.

The President of Uzbekistan ordered to provide all kinds of encouragement in the form of subsidies and tax exemptions to households which are engaged in animal husbandry and beekeeping, produce handicraft and food products and render consumer services to the population.
