The Government of Uzbekistan will spend large sums on supporting sports. This statement was made during the meeting chaired by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the promotion of sports among the younger generation. In accordance with the sports development strategies, necessary measures will be adopted to increase the number of people who will engage in sport and physical activities on a regular basis up to 33% over the next 5 years, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported to CentralAsia.news.
In February, the Ministry for Sports Development was established. One of its main goals is to promote sports among children and youth. The Ministry officials presented a number of projects and programmes during the meeting.
From April 10, large-scale sporting events will take place at various levels of the local education department. The Government will allocate up to 100 million soums to hold these events in each region through the “youth notebook” fund. Extra 1 billion soums will be spent on awards and prizes for winners. Winners will qualify for the national teams.
As was reported, 118 sports complexes were put into operation and 7,000 sports grounds were built in mahallas for the past three years. Today, 3,500 mini-football fields, 663 badminton courts, 6,000 basketball and volleyball courts and more than 1,000 gyms operate. An additional number of “paths of health” and bike paths was built.
