Project cost estimates in construction market of Kazakhstan to be revised

On March 28, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov held a regular meeting of the Anti-Crisis Task Force. The agenda focused on the future development strategy and unsettled issues in the social construction sector, the press office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported.

According to indicative projections of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development, it is planned to build about 62 million square metres of housing facilities by 2025. However, construction work on 286 facilities has been halted for various reasons. The Minister reported that each case will be investigated thoroughly.

In this context, the Prime Minister ordered an investigation into all the circumstances, noting that the fraudulent organisers of state construction tenders should be brought to justice. Emphasising that the calls for construction tenders without budget funding should be regarded as arbitrariness, Smailov highlighted the need to establish responsibility of all defaulters.

With the view to reducing the unjustified expenditure items of state construction projects, the Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development and the relevant agencies to conduct joint investigations in the pricing and costing of project documentation.
