Kazakhstan to develop new renewable energy law

A meeting of the Council on Improving the Investment Climate, chaired by Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov, focused on funding the obligations under the Climate Pact and further developing Kazakhstan’s international positions in promoting the green agenda, the press office of the Chairman of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Last year, Kazakhstan adopted the new Environmental Code that sets forth the standards of state environmental regulation, facilitates the attraction of green investments and ensures the fulfilment of the international obligations in this sphere.

“A new law on renewable energy is being developed, which will boost the development of eco-friendly energy sources. The new Investment Policy Concept of Kazakhstan until 2025 will ensure compliance with the ESG criteria and the principles of green economy,” Smailov emphasised.

With the view to achieving these goals, the Doctrine of Carbon Neutral Development until 2060 is being developed, which will determine the government transformation strategy of the Republic.
