Growth in goods movement across Kyrgyz-Chinese border discussed

On March 5, First Vice Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Arzybek Kozhoshev held talks via videoconference with Vice Chairman of the People’s Government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China Liu Sushe. The interlocutors discussed key issues on the agenda, the press office of the Government of Kyrgyzstan reports.

In particular, they discussed the issues regarding the development a management mechanism for the checkpoints Torugart and Irkeshtam which would optimise their function.

Kozhoshev emphasised that the effective functioning of the checkpoints and the optimization of the movement of goods in line with sanitary and hygiene regulations meet the interests of the two states and will contribute to expanding mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

The interlocutors noted that further efforts should be taken to increase the movement of goods across the Kyrgyz-Chinese border.

Following the talks, the officials signed a bilateral protocol and agreed to intensify high-level contacts.
