Shavkat Mirziyoyev meets with Under-Secretary-General of UN Office of Counter-Terrorism

On March 2, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism Vladimir Voronkov, who arrived in Uzbekistan to participate in the high-level international conference on the UN Global Anti-Terrorism Strategy in Tashkent, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

Vladimir Voronkov conveyed greetings and best wishes from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to the Uzbek leader and thanked him for the decision to host the international conference on the UN Global Anti-Terrorism Strategy in Tashkent.

The interlocutors focused on expanding cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN agencies and divisions, in particular with the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate, as well as the implementation of the Joint Plan of Action in Central Asia.

The interlocutors noted that Uzbekistan’s participation in the implementation of 15 joint projects of the Office of Counter-Terrorism illustrates the fruitfulness of cooperation.

The President of Uzbekistan and his guest discussed the steps in organising the events within the UN General Assembly Resolution “Enlightenment and Religious Tolerance” aimed at preventing the influence of extremist and terrorist ideology on young people, as well as the rehabilitation of persons who had been in “hot spots”.

The themes under discussion included the Afghan problem, in particular humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan.
