Tokayev checks on restoration work in Almaty and compensation payments to businesses

On February 23, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev held a working meeting with Mayor of Almaty Yerbolat Dosayev. The high-ranking official reported on the prospects of the city, the progress of restoration work and compensation for damages and losses to entrepreneurs whose facilities were at the epicentre of the January events, the press office of the President of Kazakhstan reported.

Dosayev informed that the total tranche under the simplified mechanism has increased to 10 million tenge as to render the full scope of assistance to small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs). The timeline for processing compensation claims of entrepreneurs was reduced from 1 month to 2 weeks. To date, 755 out of 1,413 claims have been processed. The Akim assured that 90% of compensation claims will be processed by March 10.

The Mayor of Almaty reported on the measures taken to stabilize prices for basic foods, expand the geography of targeted social support for certain categories of the population and modernise the healthcare and education systems of Almaty.

Commenting on the report, the President instructed to solve the problems of SMEs, maintain the recovery dynamics of the city, improve engineering networks and moderate the number of facilities unusable for residential use.
