On February 18, by the decision of the Parliament, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was awarded the insignia «Türkmenistanyň ussat diplomaty» («Honored Diplomat of Turkmenistan»). The ceremony was held at the Rukhyet Palace at the end of an extended meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, as reported by «Turkmenistan today».
The head of the Mejlis (one of the chambers of parliament) Gulshat Mammedova, reading out the relevant resolution, said that Berdimuhamedov received the award for his important contribution to strengthening the independence and neutrality of the country, protecting the interests of the state, raising the image of Turkmenistan in the international arena, improving the work of the diplomatic service, and most importantly for a significant expansion of cooperation of Turkmenistan with other countries.
Berdimuhamedov thanked the officials for the insignia. He noted that this award is an example of great trust and great respect for him on the part of the citizens of the state.
The «Türkmenistanyň ussat diplomacy» distinction was established on February 9 last year as part of the order of the head of the state.
