President of Uzbekistan holds meeting on livestock sector development

On February 16, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a working meeting on the livestock sector development, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reports.

In recent years, state assistance to the livestock sector has grown significantly. About 15 trillion soum in loans and subsidies have been allocated, and 4,500 projects have been implemented for 3 years. Livestock numbers have increased by 1.2 million heads for 2 years.

However, such factors influencing livestock production as climate change, water scarcity and the pandemic remain to exist. The participants considered the possible approaches to addressing these problems.

Starting this year, livestock producers will receive concessional loans for a 10-year term and be eligible to receive loan offsets. Wool producers will also receive concessional loans. It is planned to provide households with small ruminants on a cooperative basis. A science-based approach to livestock breeding and increasing livestock yields will be introduced.

In 2022, 123 livestock sector development projects are to be implemented. Up to US $500 million will be attracted from international financial institutions to implement these projects.
