Tokayev sets major tasks to curb inflation and increase people’s incomes

On February 8, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev held an enlarged government meeting on a number of social and economic issues. The meeting was held via videoconference, the press office of Akorda reported.

The President said the priority tasks to be fulfilled were to improve the income levels of citizens and reduce inequality.

Tokayev noted that while a steady growth of average wages and per capita income were reported, about 1 million people were living below subsistence level, and this was an absolute anti-record over the past decade. In this regard, the President said he had instructed to develop an income generation concept.

The President emphasised that the urgent task to be fulfilled was to curb inflation, noting that the time had come to exclude inefficient mediation from the trade sector.

The leader of Kazakhstan provided an example of the Altyn Orda market that kept the three millionth Almaty network of settlements dependent on the supply of essential products. Noting that this created a dark environment for criminals, which showed itself during the January events, the President instructed the Government, law enforcement officers and heads of regions to clear up the situation and put things in order.

These tasks were given to all other regions. Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev gave 2 months to fulfil the tasks.
