On February 3, over a hundred local residents gathered near the city administration building in ’well-known’ Zhanozen in Mangistau Region demanding that the local authorities give them jobs at oil and gas enterprises, the Vlast information portal reported.
The participants of the peaceful picket sent a video message to President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev.
“We are unemployed residents of Zhanozen. Until now, the unemployment problem has not been solved in the city. Two years ago, the akimat developed the roadmap, but we believe that it is being implemented unfairly. We demand that the unemployed be provided with stable jobs in the oil and gas industry,” the message says.
As was reported, the Mayor’s Office failed to give a definite answer to the residents, as it is not competent to resolve such issues, and the regional akimat should make such decisions.
The employees of the Mangistau Region akimat informed journalists that they had offered jobs to the local residents at the employment centres, but they had refused and continued to demand that the akimat give them jobs in the oil and gas sector. Currently, the measures are being taken to clear up the issue of conflict.
