Tokayev addresses Central Asia-China Summit

On January 25, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev addressed the distinguished participants of the Central Asia-China Summit marking the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Central Asian states and China, the press office of Akorda reported.

Kazakhstan-China partnerships are founded on great trust and genuine good neighbourliness, the leader of Kazakhstan said. Trade turnover keeps setting new records; it amounted to US$17 billion last year. Kazakhstan is absorbing the largest part of US$40 billion invested by China in the Central Asian states.

The President of Kazakhstan also noted that measures were being taken to restore order on the customs borders and counteract unscrupulous entrepreneurs who had used illegal schemes and put unnecessary barriers to business development. Tokayev assured his counterparts that imports to Kazakhstan and transit to third countries would remain at a high level.

The leader of Kazakhstan stated that his country was capable on increasing exports of 135 items to China, including organic agricultural and food products worth over US$1 billion. In this context, Tokayev suggested conducting Central Asia-China consultations to develop joint approaches in trade and transport connectivity.
