Tajik customs services earn over US$600 million for state budget

The customs services of Tajikistan reported on the over-fulfilment of the plan of customs duties last year. They earned 6.81 billion somoni (about US $603.3 million) for the state budget instead of planned 5.97 billion somoni (about US$528.5 million), the Khovar State News Agency reported on January 22.

The customs authorities exceeded by 16.8% the approved plan. This statement was made by Chairman of the Customs Service under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan Lieutenant General Khurshed Karimzoda.

He emphasised that the plan had been overfulfilled last year through the modernisation of the administrative system, in particular the proper implementation of the current legislation on customs valuation of imported goods and vehicles, consultation and awareness raising among the subjects of foreign economic activity and enhancement of measures to prevent illegal import of goods.

The customs authorities of Tajikistan were established in 1992 in a very difficult political environment with the direct support of President Emomali Rahmon.
