MIFT of Uzbekistan plans to develop leather and footwear industry

On January 18, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov held a meeting on the development of the leather and footwear industry. The tasks for the current year were set to increase the production and exports to 4.8 trillion soums and by US$450 million respectively. 49 projects worth US$214 million are to be implemented, the press office of the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade reports.

The work done in this sector in 2021 was reviewed. The industrial enterprises produced 4.4 trillion soums worth of goods, exported US$ 423 million worth of goods and attracted investments amounting to US$ 202 million, of which US$ 76 million were direct foreign investments. In accordance with the localization programme, import-substituting goods worth 2 trillion soums were produced. In total, the projects implemented this year have created 11,200 new jobs.

The importance of inviting a wide range of domestic producers to participate in world trade fairs, as well as conducting business missions abroad to promote domestic products in foreign markets was highlighted.
